February 2009

From The East

Brethren, we are dark.  Or perhaps more accurately, “dim”, since we’re having special communications for degrees on the dates we would normally be dark.

We will be conferring an Entered Apprentice degree on Tuesday, February 3rd at 7:00 PM and a Master Mason degree on Tuesday, February 17th at 7:00 PM.  Our next stated communication will be Tuesday, March 3rd, at 7:30 PM.  At that meeting we will vote on the bylaws change that was read at our last business meeting to move our meetings from 7:30 PM to 7:00 PM permanently.

In February and August we go to the VA Hospital every Sunday and assist veterans who would like to attend chapel services with getting to them.  We aim to get there around 8:50 AM so we can start right at 9:00.  You’re done by 11:00 AM. If you have to get to your own church service, you can leave at 10:00 AM.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to brothers John Merkt (recovering from a heart attack and subsequent pneumonia) and Jim Overton (also recovering from a heart attack).

On Thursday, February 5th, we have been invited to join Starlite and Melody Chapters (OES) at their recognition of Shirley Storkson, the Wisconsin OES Grand Representative of Tennessee.  The meeting will begin at 6:30 PM at 7409 Franklin Ave., Middleton (the Middleton-Ionic Lodge building).  The program will begin at 7:30 PM and refreshments will follow.  Please RSVP to Diane and Jim Moore -- smoores@charter.net or (608) 318-0717.

Looking ahead a little further; we’re going to have a table lodge at our March Stated Communication on St. Patrick’s Day.  Corned beef & cabbage, potatoes, and themed beverages will be on the menu.  The menu has not yet been finalized -- please let me know if you have any special dietary needs or desires.  I’ll publish final details next month.  I believe the start time will be 7:00 PM, but that has to be passed on March 3rd.

Lastly, on Saturday, April 25th at 8:30 AM; we will be presenting the Second Section of the Master Mason degree at the School of Instruction in Columbus.  Officers, please prepare for your parts.  The SW is King H., the JW will be the Seafaring Man, the SD is the 1st Craftsman, the JD is 2nd Craftsman, and the Secretary is the Scribe.  I could also use 3 volunteers to be the three “J”s.

As always, please see the website at www.doriclodge.com for the latest news.

If you have an event you’d like to see or wish to talk to me about any topic; please call or email me.  My phone number is (608) 274-4430 and my email address is master (at) doric356.com.

Hope to see you in lodge!
