December 2005

From The East

Happy Holiday’s as I write this column the snow is on the ground and there is a chill in the air.  It is time again to start the plans for a new year at Doric. This year will be one to remember and it will be up to ALL of us to step up to the challenges ahead.  For those that have not heard, our property and building have been sold and we will be moving at the end of April.

My name is Dale Holmen and I will be installed as Master of Doric for the year 2006.  It was my pleasure to serve and Master for the first time in 2006.  Our year will start with the installation of officers on Tuesday December 20, 2005 at Doric. This will be an OPEN meeting so all are welcome to attend.

My first goal is to set up two committees.  The first will be to locate a tempoary location for the meetings of both Doric and Starlite.  The second will be to look into the Masonic needs for the east side of Madison and Dane County.  This information will be used in planning our move into our new home down the road.  If you would like to serve on either committee please let me know, as I would like them up and running by the first of the year.

We do have a couple of dates planed so far to let you know about.  On March 25 Doric will be the host for a Man to Mason to Shrine Day. This is a service to the Grand Lodge and Zor Shrine.  Membership is a top concern for everyone. So talk it up, everyone must know at least one person that would make a good Mason.  This will also be you last chance to be part of a degree at the present location (you know, do it for old time sake).  This does not mean we cannot do degree work in lodge before that time so get those petitions in soon.

On Sunday March 26 we will host a special program open to the public from Radio Active.  This is a recreation of the radio programs of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s. Come and remember and bring some friends.  This is free and open to anyone interested.

Our move will be by April 28 so we will many special needs coming up and your help WILL be needed as well as your support.

I look forward to the challenges this year will bring but I know it will be a year we will all remember as when Doric came together to build the future.  I hope to see many of you in lodge this year.

Building Committee News

Dear Doric Members

On October 21st the Building Committee and the Grand Lodge of Wisconsin accepted an offer to sell  our land and building for $605,000 to Veridian Homes.  We currently expect to close on the property on April 28, 2006. In the meantime, our meetings will continue to be held at the lodge hall at 6002 Cottage Grove Road. A new committee is being formed by the lodge at this time to plan and arrange the upcoming move.  This will include finding homes for some of our belonging and putting the rest into storage until such time as we are able to move them into another lodge.  Please make time to come and visit the building a few more times.  Many of you have very fond memories of the building and time spent in fellowship there, come and re-live them one more time. As our plans roll out we will make every attempt to keep you updated.

December 2005 update - The earnest monies have been deposited and Veridian is currently have a Phase One Environmental inspection done.

If you would like a picnic table or know someone who would let one of the trustee's know, they are looking to get them into new home by spring.

Fraternally,

Mitch Custer PM Sec.

Building Committee Chair
